Development Directions & Focus

Arts managers must capture the dynamic pulse of the cultural ecology, commanding advanced managerial capabilities and the ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders—including governments, donors, corporate sponsors, media, educators, audiences, and civil society—situating arts practice within broad multidisciplinary frameworks. Consequently, arts management pedagogy bridges business administration, public policy, education, public relations, and sociology. Beyond specialized expertise, graduate education emphasizes rigorous logical reasoning and critical thinking. Catering to students from both arts and non-arts academic backgrounds, the Institute establishes the following strategic development priorities:

(I) Strengthening Industry-Academia Connections

The Institute adopts a pedagogical model balancing rigorous theory with practical application. In practical coursework, industry leaders and seasoned professionals are regularly invited as visiting faculty to lead students in authentic industry-academia collaborative projects. Furthermore, to heighten student sensitivity toward cultural ecology and market dynamics, the Institute conducts a mandatory week-long immersive Field Study program every semester, enabling deep engagement with leading organizations and practical site explorations.

(II) Cultivating Sustainable Arts Management and Entrepreneurship Leaders

At its core, the program is positioned around cultivating the management and entrepreneurial competencies required in the fields of art and cultural and creative industries. Building upon this foundation, the concept of ENACT was developed, with the aim of nurturing professionals equipped with the capabilities to establish and manage ventures in the cultural and creative sectors. ENACT encompasses five key dimensions: Empowerment of emerging micro-scale art and creative talents; Networking through the integration and connection of production systems; Action through entrepreneurial initiatives; Clustering through the collective development of creative enterprises; and Transformation through the enhancement of added value.

(III) Fostering Innovation, Interdisciplinary, and Integrative Capabilities

Workforce demands have evolved from I-shaped specialists to T-shaped professionals, and subsequently to π-shaped talents. The diverse perspectives generated through interdisciplinary thinking serve as a starting point for future innovation. Accordingly, cultivating individuals with cross-disciplinary knowledge and the ability to integrate expertise across different fields has become a growing trend in higher education. This approach also represents a key development priority of the institute.

(IV) Arts Entrepreneurship Education as Competitive Momentum and Industry Vehicle

To advance artistic creation, both art practitioners and arts administrators must embrace an entrepreneurial mindset. From fostering collaboration at the production stage and securing resources to managing stakeholders throughout the process of entering the market, as well as expanding and developing ventures after market entry, each stage requires proactive initiative and leadership. Entrepreneurial capacity must therefore be deeply embedded in the mindset, professional competencies, and practical skill sets of every arts management professional.
